Lockdown Lab is a place for Heart n Soul to showcase the new ways our artists are finding to make new work, experiment creatively, and spend time together during lockdown. Read on to find out what our artists have been up to, and watch and listen to some of their experiments!

Aldean and Lindsay…

… worked together to create a low-fi isolation version of his song ‘I Feel So Happy’. An excellent listen if you want to keep your spirits up!

Electric Fire…

… talked about more ideas for the music video to their new song Buzzin'! Because of lockdown, the band wanted to think about things they could animate into the music video. Everything from a map of the moon and Ehima’s face as a tattoo to Sam playing a drum kit, pirates, bees and wasps were mentioned! Ehima did some video recording so everyone could start thinking about filming parts of the music video over Zoom. Watch it above!

After last week's digital meet up Alicia sent some recordings of her playing her keyboard along to a drumbeat, and Richard put it into Ableton as two loops. Sam really liked it and played the drumbeat on his own keyboard. He wanted to add a 'distorted guitar' sound to it so Richard recorded his keyboard playing and ran it through a guitar amp!

Sam had another idea for another keyboard line, but if a sound is continuous in Zoom it cuts it out because it thinks it is background noise! After the first chord his keyboard would become really quiet and crackly, so Richard had to capture one chord and loop it instead. William named the song 'Jutter'. Listen to a demo of it below!

Electric Fire is made up of Alicia (vocals), Ehima (drums and percussion), Sam (synths and vocals) and William (laptop, production and vocals). Their sound was developed when they started using cutting edge digital music technology in collaboration with Heart n Soul's SoundLab project.

Danielle and Rosie…

… decided to make a new song about all the things Danielle is excited about doing after the lockdown, called Whatya Gunna Do!

Danielle’s mum helped her with creating rhyming lyrics, and Danielle created the melody and drum beat in the Google Music Lab, which allows you to download separate beats to mix! Danielle and Rosie also played some art games and started thinking about lyrics for another new song!

Danielle is a visual artist and singer-songwriter, who makes art about people and things that are important to her. She likes doing art, crafts, sewing and making music.

Rosie is a visual artist and musician who works on lots of different fun projects!
